Arriving, on a hire plane. She's taking a sabbatical: iced tea, banana lounging. Sinking. Into the Amazon. All the good things (she's said to herself) - go where all the good things are! No tomato, no Italian. No potato, no Russian. No chilli, no... uh? No coca no cocoa no cacao no no no CUCKOO!! /I kind of like this/Feels like cunnilingus/when I say her name/ /If you say it softly/she will let you speak/again!/ (sighs.) Leaving, on a higher plane. Don't know when I'll get that again!

about

This album documents the first gathering of Thin Air, a project focussed on amplifying intangible qualities in music/lyrics by minimising repetition of processes and available time.

All 13 tracks were written and recorded in four days by Jackie Marshall (Peppercorn Queen), Producer Robin Waters (The Boat People) and a constant stream of collaborators who dropped in during that time, responding to an open call out at the start of the process. These included James O'Brien (Darling James, The Boat People), Dan Parsons, Tim Harvey, Scott McConnachie, Jake Rush (Louis Spoils), Jackson Pain (The Tropes), Selwyn Cozens (Major Rock Hard Abs), Ben Tolliday (The Eye Fives, We are the West) and Matt Nelson.

Songs were written in an hour and performed live without common recording practices such as (with the exception of 'Stupid Blues') overdubs, click tracks or headphones. Using, in almost all cases, either whole or combined first and second takes. This is not with the intention of trying to assert any kind of superior musical abilities (note the re-combining and shortening of multiple takes) but rather to ensure speed was maintained and that the listener would hear uncertainty on the part of the performers. The songs themselves are stylistically wide ranging and genre touch-stones or lyrics were heavily informed by whoever happened to turn up at the studio on a particular day. All songs were mixed by Waters over four days in June.

Marshall and Waters intend more gatherings beyond Melbourne, making use of other collaborators in Brisbane and beyond. They also hope to take the process out of a recording studio context so the constant making of songs can be something an audience experiences as part of their performances.
